Texas Chainsaw Massacre was 1974 (filmed in '73), and Halloween 1978.
The second Texas Chainsaw Massacre was released in 1986.
Friday the 13th, the first one, was filmed in 1979, released in 1980.
Stephen King once said (and this was in one of his non fiction books in the late Seventies) that it would be very irresponsible to show a minor the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, because it would likely damage that kid's mind forever.
Honestly I don't really get scared movie wise and I tend to watch horror movies because of the plot but I'd have to say in no particular order (from 1980s and later)
1. Pontypool (2008) 2. The entire series of Alien movies INCLUDING Prometheus and Alien Covenant (1986-2017) 3. Midnight Meat Train (2008) 4. Southbound (2015) 5. Candyman (1992) 6. All the Chucky movies including the two tv series out (1988-2023) 7. Battle Royale (2000) 8. Nightbreed (1990) 9. Gingersnaps, all movies (2000 - 2004) 10. They Live (1988)
and I'll cheat, one more:
11. All the Hellraiser movies, too many to date but the first few were late 80s going into early 90s.
Troll (1986), Ghoulies (1984), Slumber Party Massacre (1982), The House on Sorority Row (1982), The Prowler (1981), The Stepfather (1987), Maniac Cop (1988), Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981), Pumkinhead (1988), Night of the Demons (1988), Graduation Day (1981), Night of the Comet (1984), Amsterdamned (1988)
