Happy birthday to Bela Lugosi

Forever Dracula
JSul3 · 70-79
At 6'1 and deep blue eyes, and Hungarian accent, and matinee idol personna, Lugosi could command a room with his mere presence. He was a truly striking figure in his day.
Nobody could convey sex appeal....along with evil like he could.
Dracula, Murders in the Rue Morgue, White Zombie, Chandu the Magician, The Raven, The Phantom Creeps, and The Human Monster, all
were all examples of Lugosi at his prime.

In the 1939 Son of Frankenstein, his Ygor steals the show, with some great dialog exchanges with Basil Rathbone.

In 1943, he was Armand Tesla in Return of the Vampire, but make no mistake...he was Dracula, but Columbia studios tread ever so lightly, as to not receive any litigation from Universal....but he did portray the vampire Count in Abbott and Costello meets Frankenstein in 1948.

His heart wrenching 'I have no home...' speech in the 1956 Bride of the Monster, showed that even in his last days, he could still deliver the goods.

A fine actor who came to America and became a citizen. He was a founding member of the Screen Actors Guild. He was very active in the war effort and appeared at many US War Bonds events and Red Cross blood drives.

Heard he was buried in his costume.
@Colormegone He was, at his own request. Vincent Price later said that Peter Lorre asked him if they should put a stake through his heart just to be safe.
