Cries and Whispers Film 2 of 1,000
Always will be needing to adjust approach till it feels perfect, I shall thus alternate between newly mentioned to those which I have in the past mentioned quite a few times. For the time being on this post i'll just write about it.
This is my #1 Bergman which also was tied with Winter Light,but on a previous post I put Through a Glass Darkly at the top of Bergmans Crisis of Faith trilogy, so therefore Cries and Whispers reigns supreme for me in this ultra great Swedish director's filmography.
In this film we get a close look at a lady who is dying, and her sisters who are caring for her.
There is a beautiful red color scheme going all the way through and is visually staggering, and the film as a whole not just visual, but pacing too creates a hypnotic hold on the willing viewer.
What kind of viewer does this film ask for? Well first off someone who's willing to see things unfold which may be uncomfortable.
Reassuring and easy film this is not, but I am of the belief that if you want a film to do more for you than just a few chuckles and thrills, the film has to be asking something of you.
It is all set in a lavish mansion out where society isn't really a problem, these are rich people, with some problems of their own, we get into the lives of the sisters, they have deep problems with each other.
When strong emotions are depicted with words predominately with a serious hold of things, I get terrifically impressed with it.
Of all the great films I've seen none of them are liked because of any identification they have with my own life, films for me are windows into worlds i'd never see were it not for these films.
