My favorite musicals
Song and dance in films is one of my favorite things. So many stunning moments and can be even more therapeutic than comedy.
42nd Street -- the last chunk is where it's at but a few great moments throughout, and GREAT use of choreography and the way it looks, geometrical shapes.

La La Land -- those first 2 songs are where it's at for me so damn catchy and light, liberating sounding songs and lovely visuals to go along with it, I just never got much further into it, because the story is absolutely uninteresting to me after such dazzling songs. I'd rather it be scene after scene like those.
Jacques Demy specialized in the musicals, with The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, molto romantico, and The Young Girls of Rochefort, as with La La Land I really only love the first 2 music moments, the opening credits with elegant slow motion style dancing on a bridge thing over water. And then when they get out of their vehicles and start dancing all over the place, neat choreography, a cool 60s French jazz sound throughout this film songs sung can be great, but often it's just too light and breezy, the scene where the 2 guys dance and sing in a little restaurant is a laugh riot to me. The song the sailor guy sings is very nice, smooth like a singer almost on par with Mel Torme, haha I always think of the judge in Night Court with Mel Torme.
Bob Fosse's musical section in Sweet Charity where it influenced Beyonce is such a stand out, and his All that Jazz is more suffused with stellar musical moments. Sweet Charity is a remake of Fellini's Nights of Cabiria, imo, he failed, but that music section is AWESOME!!

The Wizard of Oz is pound for pound the best musical it seems to me the songs of Tin Man, Lion and Straw Man are so iconic and the whole munchkin sequence, leaves even the European masters in the dust in my European preferring mind.
