L'amour fou (1969) - Jacques Rivette, Eng Subtitles

I don't remember if I posted about this before, but my last fling with The Criterion Channel this was seen, finally, I was really into the French New Wave and this was a key film for Rivette, and his work was hard to get physically, I managed to get a German edition of Out 1, when a English friendly edition was released I wasn't able to spring for it, and those things go OOP quick!!

And there's an ok copy of it here, which I share for anyone bored enough to sit 4 hours watching it, eyes glued to the long takes and slow pace, it's about a cheatin' theatre director who's much better half is spurned, and it dwells on her anger, which slowly builds, a scene where she her beau and the lady he's foolin' around with is super, it has an edge in the air, subtle and invigorating.

Then the 2 have a crazy fun night where they break a bunch of stuff, they seem happy, and so imagine his stunned-ness when she says blankly at the end of their little party that she never wants to see him again, the rest of the film shows how that breaks this foolish theatre director guy and only then is he human, like Zampano at the end of La Strada.

If this doesn't play on the SW page, and you're interested it'll be viewable on YouTube, granted region friendliness. I'll be listening to the greatest Gothic novel while watching.
