4. Kaili Blues

We're going back to China for our 4th film of the day, i'm quite tired so I might have a nap before finishing this, but i'm really stoked to see something calm, meditative and transcendent, with gorgeous foliage rich scenery, and long takes. I wish everyday could be like this, I would gladly forego any family gathering with a groundhog day set up of pizza movies and the strange sensation of never feeling tired, of course my computer would melt on my lap and i'd get 3rd degree burns, but it would be worth it.

Directed by Bi Gan • 2015 • China
Starring Chen Yongzhong, Guo Yue

With his dazzling 2015 debut feature KAILI BLUES, filmmaker, poet, and photographer Bi Gan established himself as one of the most exciting new voices in world cinema, earning comparisons to Andrei Tarkovsky and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. A dreamlike odyssey in which a doctor on a quest to find his brother’s abandoned child finds himself transported through the past and future, KAILI BLUES features as its centerpiece an astounding, forty-one-minute outdoor tracking shot that must be seen to be believed.

Smithereens was really nice, the squalor was appreciated 4/5
