Not too often do you have a great Japanese film made by a non-Japanese director

But that's what happened here with Paul Schrader, scriptwriter of Taxi Driver, and an authority on contemplative cinema including Ozu. This is chosen not at random which will otherwise be the decision factors, but also to look at something that comments upon and improves vastly on that which was just being watched, which will be used only a couple episodes at a time. With a stunning score by Philip Glass ... if it was just going to get dark the next film would have a symbolic connection with Candyman, however there will be daylight flooding the living room for awhile, so whichever I choose also has to bear that in mind, I refuse to watch certain films in a well lit room. .... Similar to Mishima is Wittgenstein by Derek Jarman.

Still my biggest Schrader blind spot. The movie intimidates me, and I feel I‘d have a better chance with it, if I‘d read Mishima first.
