Which film do you consider to be a masterpiece?

I've seen thousands of films but there are only two that I might consider masterpieces, both directed by Hitchcock: "Vertigo" and "Rear Window". They aren't my only favourites by him, but they're two that at might consider come close to that description.

@Vivaci Citizen Kane has technical merit that's very relevant to its time. Also the "moral" of the story is definitely timeless. I love it, but somehow I still think it doesn't have enough range for me to consider a masterpiece. Maybe I need to watch it again. Last time I saw it would have been about ten years ago. And a few times before that. Schindler's List I've never watched. Lawrence of Arabia, again for it's photography - yes, it's mindblowing, but not a masterpiece to my mind, not even close.

@Vivaci Great list!

@Harmonium1923 @Vivaci How do you both rate Citizen Kane against Vertigo? I have to say I'm more partial to the latter.
@Harmonium1923 thank you! 馃馃槆
@PhilDeep I'm not arguing bout that...Vertigo was no doubt an excellent movie. I somehow enjoyed Citizen Kane a lot more than Vertigo. But to each their own. 鉁岋笍馃挍馃し

I'm weird like that...I prefer the Natural History Museum at Oxford to the Smithsonian. Shoot me! 馃槄馃槍

@Vivaci Aww, I'm not fighting either, just sharing opinions, and of course, they differ. I won't shoot you. I'd shoot your unwanted friend who eats your tomatoes though, if I were allowed to 馃
@PhilDeep 馃槤 Oh please don't shoot that bugger. I feel happy that he's chosen my garden over my neighbors'...馃檭

@Vivaci Citizen Kane is a remarkable film.
@PhilDeep how did you know? 馃槆
@SW-User Ikr? I think with the limited cinema techniques available in those times, the mastery is remarkable. 馃帴

@Vivaci Because you appear to put your heart into whatever you do and so how could that not manifest itself in how they taste, my friend?!
@PhilDeep awww...you're so kind and caring...no wonder you see the good in others. Thanks, H.

Btw, there were two skunks in my backyard last night...one even tried to spray my dog when he ran after them. 馃槀馃槚 Don't even ask how we managed to sleep in all that "fragrance"...
PhilDeep51-55, M
@Vivaci The only skunk I've ever seen is Pepe le Pew or whatever his name is, the cartoon :)
@Vivaci I Hate Citizen Kane...dull, pointless drivel....I FORGOT TO ADD Schindler's LIST! that was a brilliant movie...I could never get through any of the third one
@Vivaci Shadow of a Doubt was Hitchcock's favorite of his films and mine

@Vivaci I so love Lawrence of Arabia.
@Vivaci i always found the Smithsonian to be overrated and confusing. i love all of the history museums. The one in Cincinnati was ruined a bit by moving it to the union terminal. they added quite a bit but i miss the tyrannosaurus Rex and the native American trails.
