I have this dumb theory that people are more likely to improve when they accept their flaws

It sounds contradictive but hear me out...

like... if we are more willing to accept our flaws then we are more willing to work with them to our advantage, and design our personal systems around our weaknesses

but if we're ashamed then we are more prone to try and hide our flaws and weaknesses under the rug instead of working with them?

an example is that I have a trashy memory.
but because I've accepted this, I've developed systems to compensate and tools to help me remember

but if I just pushed aside my weaknesses and only focused on my strengths then I would only be improving the things that didn't really need improving?

I dunno if I'm making much sense lol

but thanks for coming to my TED talk

That is true, but I don't think it's simply about people accepting their imperfections but also because of society and the effects of social media judgement.
Mant, if not most, are dependent on others to gauge their personal values and significance. Even if one finds the strength to admit they're flaw, the effect of when the criticism comes from someone else is different, it weighs more.
That's why even the smartest and brightest, the artists on their prime, celebrities and so on crash even when they seem so perfect.
