Disney Descendents or Descendants - is it basically US High school dance culture on steroids ?

I don't know much about Disney movie characters so the Descendants or Descendents movies are lost on me. I've never really watched any oldskool disney movies to know how the characters connect to one another.

However they appear to be US high school dance culture (aka Glee) on steroids.

Not very realistic, but then again I guess the movies aren't meant to be realistic.
