In imagination (and sci-fi) submarines and spaceships have lots of room and shiny things: in reality, they are cramped and cluttered because empty space (what I call breathing room) costs money. Look at many TV and movie dramas and most characters live in huge houses with lots of room, while in reality, the majority actually live in small, cramped spaces in cities.

The crazy thing is that 2001 was made at the same time as the Apollo moon missions. We had better futures when I was young.
