What was one of your favorite cartoons when you were growing up?

I absolutely loved the Smurfs.

Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats

Walt Disneys Fantasia , esp Night on Bald Mountian....it gave me chills. The artistry was amazing and i loved its dark theme.
It made me wanna be an animator or illustrator and nudged my desire to draw.

@OogieBoogie The old hand drawn Disney cartoons were great. Only Ghibli bothers to do it the right way. The 3 D Pixar stuff has no soul!
@Human1000 Ghibli is AMAZING.
Pixar was more about taking animation to bigger frontiers. Pulling it away from Saturday morning shorts and fables .
(Although pixar i feel has lost its heart of late).
Some CGI animation is stunning . Some episodes of 'Love Death and Robots' were phenomenal.

But i do have a soft spot for traditional hand drawn animé. Its got a movement and class of its own.🤗
Most people dont know the time, work and artistry that went into Disney's Snow White....many of the backgrounds were oil paintings, and works of art within themselves.

Ghibli bought that type of artistry back. His skies, reflections in water, and even th3 way he frames shots is so beautiful , sometimes i need to stop it and just appreciate a single frame.

@OogieBoogie I’ll check it out, thanks. Snow White…the way they painted the water was really wonderful. I was glad the kids liked Totoro because I could just enjoy the animation over and over. The rain scene at the bus Stop before the the Cat Bus? Stunning!

@OogieBoogie My mother loved the hippos in Fantasia…lol.
@Human1000 OMG !YUSS!!!
I loved that scene , it bought tears to my eyes it was so stunning.
Garden of words, is a very quiet, sadly romanctic anime that is visually stunning in moments like that.
Arrietty by Ghibli has beutiful scenes of garden detail.

@OogieBoogie Really? It wasn’t just me. Lol. I loved Garden if Words! I watched it with my son. This kind of animation can convey the most complex human emotions, and create poignancy not easily achieved.

Just look at the still on the cover. It’s a painting.
@Human1000 i swear, when i watched that , i could smell tje rain. I had goosebumps, and all these rainy day feels.
It really is a magic piece.
No showy stuff, no big drama or fantastical things....just....moments, in everyday life. Almost the epitome of subtlety of storytelling .
But the art was something else!

@OogieBoogie I smell rain on pavement every time. I was in Japan during a week of rain and it takes me back to that too.

I couldn’t say what’s great about Totoro better than you! What a nice surprise to have this conversation. Thank you…

@OogieBoogie The scenes from Spirited Away when they travel on the train… wow
@SW-User oh yes!...with the clouds and the water. Yes, thats a good one too. With how the light changes as the sun goes down.🤗
