Fun fact: Golden Age Batman used guns and even killed people
He was still mostly seen using his gadgets and clobbering bad guys with his fists, but during the first two years after his creation (1939-1940), Batman would occasionally use firearms and he had a body count. It should be noted for the latter, he would always try to avoid taking a life and would only do so with the worst criminals whom he felt needed killing. Since his moral code of never using guns or killing has been established, all pre-1941 Batman appearances in comics have been deemed out of continuity. But for how dark and gritty he's consistently been since the '80s, it may come as a surprise to many that he was actually more dark and violent in his beginnings than he is today, even before he got turned into a camp icon during the Silver Age.
