A few days I made a discovery about myself
I've always disliked chick flicks, romcoms, and dramas and preferred horror. I finally think I know why.
The reason came to me after breaking down mentally 3 nights in a row from watching Once Upon A Time. A show all about family, true love, trust, and sticking together no matter what.
Those are all things I wish I had in my life, but don't. It's a harsh reminder of everything I've missed out on bc of my upbringing, and still do.
Horror stories, however, give me a distraction from real life as those things are unlikely to happen. Even psychological horror is too far fetched to be a threat to me because even when it's realistic, it's too specific for me to feel it could be a threat.
It's starting to make sense why I can watch all sorts of horror and still sleep well, but I can't watch disney movies like The Little Mermaid or Tinkerbell without getting nightmares.
