A few weeks ago I posted about a Paramount+ series called the Lioness. I was streaming the latest season and was just so into it that I needed to discuss it, so I posted here.
Well, that season is over and shortly after Netflix dropped the latest series of The Diplomat.
This is another series that I cannot get enough of. I binged the whole season in three nights (much to my wife's annoyance).
In the Lioness our protagonist is Joe McNamara (played by Zoe Saldana), a CIA operative who leads a team of special operators. In The Diplomat, our protagonist is Kate Wyler, a former intelligence officer turned Ambassador to the UK.
Seeing a pattern here? I love strong female leads in plot lines like these. Sometimes the "not quite realistic" aspects bug me. My military background educated me enough to know what the real thing is like, but I get that Hollywood takes liberties with the truth for dramatic effect and I'm okay with that. Anyway, I'm so into these two series and it bugs me that there won't be any more episodes for like a year. 🙄
Back when I was in undergrad (2013-2017), I obsessed over another series, Madam Secretary. In fact my obsession was so bad that several friends referred to me as Madam Secretary! In that show, Tea Leoni played US Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord. Sec'y McCord also had an intel background.
I think I might go back and re-watch Madam Secretary now that I have nothing to watch. 🤣
Any other ideas of good shows for me? I need: - Strong female lead - International affairs / intelligence theme - Not just guns and bombs, but real character development
@Harmonium1923 Highly recommended 🙌🏼 Acting is superb. Writing is exceptional. And it’s the same writer/producer for Homeland tv series (another great one).
@Longpatrol Ohhh ... Yes, I had that on a list to start over. I've seen like one season, but it was in the middle. Never saw the beginning or the end. Thanks for the reminder!
@4thdimensiondream Okay, now I need to go back and watch more Homeland! ;) And, no, haven't seen any sequel to A Handmaid's Tale. Didn't even know there was one???
