@OlderSometimesWiser phenomenal in Nomadland. That didn’t seem like she was acting. I’ve never seen Sophie’s Choice knowing the basic theme, but Streep is the favorite to win my question if anybody wants to play!
@4thdimensiondream Both women have this extraordinary ability to disappear inside a character so you forget the actress. McDormand actually went out and lived the nomad lifestyle in preparing for the role. And several of the nomads featured in the film were actual nomads.

@4thdimensiondream I've only seen the beginning of Tsunami and maybe some scenes after that. I've seen her also in Goodnight Mommy and The Desperate Hour but didn't really like those movies.
@4thdimensiondream She does a great job with North of North. It is a slice of life comedy set in a Inuit community in the far north of Canada.
She has really blown up here showing a modern Inuk woman living her life and destroying 200 year old stereotypes and cliches.
It also through a humourous lens shows some of the culture clash between the white majority and their own community but also shows that alot of what they deal with is not much different from the struggles of any rural small town in the country so there are things we can all relate to as well.
@Munumbis you are entitled to your opinion of course. I have a higher level of respect and appreciation for the acting craft, both men and women equally I suspect.
@peterlee two excellent choices. Grace is utterly breath taking in Read Window. Rebecca wow. So pretty and so so evil. I read the book a few years earlier and she was spot on to what I was picturing.
I rarely saw a movie or TV show she was in that I didn't like. She essentially played the same type of character - one who knew she was in a movie, that it wasn't real life, so she made sardonic, "what the hell are you talking about?" faces. Her name was Mary Wickes.

I like the aura of Audrey Hepburn and in terms of acting, it would be Jodie Foster. I like Viola Davis. In some respects, I go a lot by individual movies.
