Any TV experts ??

My Sharp brand tv stopped showing any picture at all yesterday. It's just black. There's sounds but no picture. I Googled what to do, it said unplug it and press Power button 30 seconds to drain power, and do a Hard reset. It didn't work 🙁 Any other tips?? It's only eight years old.

LG or Samsung are best

Could you get the model number for it? Should be on the back of the TV

Holy smokes. Look up the price of smart TVs in your area. They’re not very much in mine. I haven’t bought them be in five years. They’re less now.

I would consider taking it to a TV repair shop if you do not want to replace it. I hope it is a simple fix.

@Sapio Are there TV repair shops left?
Sapio · 51-55, M
@Thatsright tbh I don't know

@Thatsright as far as I was aware, TV repair shops were only for tube TVs. I don't know if you can replace the new flat screens if they go out on you.

When my TV went out, I went to the manufacturer home page and chatted with customer service who walked me through a reset and fixed it just fine. Mine is LG though

If it runs off WiFi unplug the modem for a minute then back in.

@Thatsright Unfortunately it's not a Smart tv..just regular flat screen

This would happen to the YouTube app in my tv, there would be sound but a black screen. What I had to do was uninstall the app on the tv and reinstall it and the fixed that issue. It only happened with you tube. Are you watching via an app and having the issue?
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@WasEP No it's a flat screen tv, no Smart features for apps.
WasEP · 51-55, M
@Baybreeze then it is probably DRT, dead right there
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@WasEP So weird my tv in my room is fifteen years old, and knock on wood , it's fine. This is only eight years old!! Ugh I'll try the reset trick once more, and if still nothing will have to get a new one. Thanks 🌟

Once the backlight goes out, expensive to fix
fun4us2b · M
Double check video inputs....while the audio is playing shine a bright light at the screen to see if there are moving images - if so it's a bad backlight....time for new one...if not double check the image source...
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@fun4us2b How do you check the image source?
fun4us2b · M
@Baybreeze The video input, if possible connect it to another TV to see if it is working....
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Try different inputs or even a different source if you have one, like a DVD or Bluray player. Also check and reseat any connections.

You could also try the Flashlight Trick. If the screen is completely black, turn the TV on and shine a flashlight at an angle close to the screen. If you can faintly see shadows or menus, the LED backlight inside your TV has likely failed.

I never heard of doing this but it can't hurt to try.

Sadly it is cheaper and faster to replace it than to fix it. ☹
