Well, there's a dark substance sprinkled on my egg. On no, on closer inspection, looks like black pepper.

Pepper? What for would I put black pepper on Your Honour's egg?
Isn't your Honour big and able enough to put pepper on himself?

Mrs Cadogan picks up the plate and has a close look.

Ah, tis soot.

Nothing. Only good, clean soot out of the chimbley.
And your Honour thinking I was trying to poison him.
'Tis the downdraught from the soft weather that's in in.
It blows the soot down out of the chimbley, bad scran to it. 😄
