How Much Did You Suffer?

Occasionally my folks watched this, as well as “Sing Along With Mitch Miller” (and yes, we sang along). Years later, when Welk was on tv at a friend’s house, he told some of us that the music represented "the struggles of his people". Someone threw a pillow at him before changing the channel. 😊

I was fortunate in that The Lawrence Welk Show was not on my parents' watch list, however, back then you did not have a bounty of choices on television and shows you wanted nothing to do with were taking up valuable screen time for those you were craving!

I wasn't forced to watch it. I could go to my room and stare at the ceiling. Those guys always looked so unhappy and hungover.

I was forced to listen to Slim Whitman for 100 miles - and my mother singing along... which was worse.

I watched whatever the antenna could pick up that day. I watched it and I liked it and I never complained.

Where is my money?

It boggles the mind to think people actually liked the show's music back in the day.
