Watching - I, Claudius

1976 - 10 hour series in 12 parts.
Based on the novels of Robert Graves who in 1934 published his most commercially successful work, I, Claudius.
Using classical sources, he constructed a complex and compelling tale of the life of the Roman emperor Claudius, a tale extended in the sequel Claudius the God.
I, Claudius received the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1934. Later, in the 1970s, the Claudius books were turned into the very popular television series I, Claudius, with Sir Derek Jacobi shown in both Britain and United States.
If you enjoy historical drama, seek this out. I love these historical/period dramas. They bring to life long ago societies.

I had the pleasure of seeing Derek Jacobi perform live on stage once, from the front row.. Close enough to be spat on as he enunciated. As his scene opened I watched him draw himself up from the small, rather efeminate person he is, to blast forward his lines as a truly blood chilling murderous king. Total transformed in an instant.. A moment I will never forget and one the camera cannot capture..😷
