I haven't read the book so I can't say if the film lives up to it but watching last night it reminded me of 1970s English folk horror TV like Robin Redbreast and the Nigel Kneal classic Baby. This kind of thing strikes a chord with me.

@AngelUnforgiven I wasn't overwhelmed with it early on either, so I can understand that. But the way things came together as the film went on really grabbed me.
