You got me curious. Approximately 2000 have my surname in the US while almost 10,000 have it as a first name. I was surprised. But it is derived from a British name of different spelling which only has 512.

@Gusman Thanks. Mine (the one on my birth certificate) is ranked 379 000 th (ish) in the world. Fewer than a thousand of us. I've never seen it in the credits of anything!

An interesting fact about family names: in Norway if fewer that two hundred people bear a family name then anyone wanting to name themselves with that name has to obtain permission from all the existing holders.

I'm being slightly vague about the numbers because there are so few of us that it would make it easy to dox me.

The numbers must be taken with at least a pinch of salt though. The map shows the values for Norway and I can see that they are wrong.

As for my adopted name (Lanyon) which is from my mother's part of the world, that is rather more common, ranked 114 083rd, but still only 4 053 people. Most of them in Australia; probably descended from Cornish miners I suspect.
