Why do streaming platforms charge for so many of the older movies that weren't even huge hits?

I decided I'd like to watch Housesitter with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn again, but it is only available if you pay to rent. I've had that happen a few times lately with movies that I don't suspect were exceedingly popular. I could pay it. I simply don't want to. So on to something else. Funny, I could always find something to watch as a kid, despite having only 3 channels and that was on a good day - sometimes just 2! Now, I've got 4,000 channels and nothing to watch. Lol. Go figure.

I haven't done a lot of looking, but I understand that Tubi is #1 by a huge margin, take a look on there.

If I recall correctly, Housesitter is a Disney title. Disney is run by the pitchfork dude with cloven hooves who dwells downstairs.

@uncalled4 I do watch Tubi, Vizio free, Crackle, etc. But I hate the commercials. They seem to be 313 decibles above the volume of the movie. Annoying.

@LadyBronte There was a movement to match the levels between breaks and TV content about 10 years ago, but it never went anywhere.

@uncalled4 I remember it. The disparity between the volume on some movies and commercials is ridiculous.
