Why do streaming platforms charge for so many of the older movies that weren't even huge hits?

I decided I'd like to watch Housesitter with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn again, but it is only available if you pay to rent. I've had that happen a few times lately with movies that I don't suspect were exceedingly popular. I could pay it. I simply don't want to. So on to something else. Funny, I could always find something to watch as a kid, despite having only 3 channels and that was on a good day - sometimes just 2! Now, I've got 4,000 channels and nothing to watch. Lol. Go figure.

I think most streaming sites try to rope you into a monthly payment for premium service. I agree with your decision. And I understand where you are coming from with having all these channels and nothing to watch.

@Sapio I have several I currently pay for, but lately, it's nickle and dime you to death - pay for a premium service, rent others, yada yada . I refused to give them any more $. I'm sure those titles I want to see will be "free" at some point. I can wait.

This is exactly what they do. And they keep raising their prices with little to justify it. Thinking of dropping Netflix after having forever, just to say I have it. Not worth it anymore since I rarely watch it at all.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
The quality offered is substantially less and the price is way more. @PatKirby @LadyBronte @Sapio

@PatKirby The majority of the time, I watch Netflix, but it isn't what it used to be.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@jackjjackson Agreed.

My tenant of almost three years moved out today and it occurred to me I should keep it as a selling point for my next tenant. They just informed me they're raising their price. 😭
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@PatKirby Ugh! I didn't realize they are raising rates again!! 😬
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Time to cancel. It’s outrageous. Just started Apple TV. Very good! @LadyBronte
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@jackjjackson I have heard people are enjoying it but I've not researched enough content that I'm ready to switch services yet.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
It’s not a permanent thing. One can switch everything daily. For example I might add paramount plus showtime for a bit so I can watch Landman and one or two others and then drop it. We’re not talking lifetime commitment ps here 🤣😂🤣 @LadyBronte

@jackjjackson

Landman turned out to be quite good. Binged over the weekend and hoping the second season is available soon. Wow, the cameo by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was an eye opener! Billy Bob is the reluctant turnabout company president!

Everything Billy Bob is in is good. @PatKirby
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@PatKirby @jackjjackson I really enjoyed Landman as well. Taylor Sheridan is a boss! His work has always been good - at least everything I've seen thus far. And I do switch services occasionally too, for what I want to see. Why not? Streaming companies have no loyalty to customers. I have no loyalty to them. 🤷🏼‍♀

@LadyBronte @jackjjackson

Just found out about Landman season 2. The only thing I don't like about the show is it comes out next year. I live on the edge of the city limits with giant windmills just a few miles away between my house and my cousin's that lives in a rural city who's been in the oil business 35-40 years. Tough old dude just retired recently and promptly had a heart attack himself. He knows as well as I know and others around our Eagle Ford Shale play that there must be a transitionary period long before we switch from an oil-based energy society to the next. Leftist naysayers want to jump from what we have now directly to Utopia skipping that transition. Not going to happen for decades. People just don't understand this. This scene explains it to the lawyer in no uncertain terms...

Darn right. I still don’t understand why they aren’t hundreds off small nuclear plant scattered around everywhere. @PatKirby

@jackjjackson

Bingo.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I think I’m going to get that for a m8nth or so so I can watch it. Anything else you recommend on that network? @PatKirby
PatKirby · M
@jackjjackson

Binged it over 2-3 days, plenty of time inside a month. This beginning clip with Billy Bob's character Tommy in the bar negotiating, then talking down this virtue signaler is what drew me into watching in the first place...

Thanks. I’m gonna do it. BBT is great in everything. I’m assuming you’ve seen the Bad Santa films? @PatKirby
PatKirby · M
@jackjjackson

Enjoy, and yes awesome portrayal of latter-day cynical Santa! Had to get the dvd.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
There’s also a Bad Santa 2. @PatKirby
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@PatKirby I do remember that explaination to the attorney. He was spot on!

@LadyBronte

Tell me what you thought of the coyote scene? When the neighbor lady shot it with her high power rifle.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@PatKirby The next in line, taking the place of the wise old coyote when he was short. Much like Thorton taking the place of the old boss that died. Not sure, but my take. Thorton was seeing his own situation in the wild. You?
PatKirby · M
@LadyBronte
Exactly my thoughts. He was seeing his boss die in the first shooting, irrespective of his neighbor doing the killing and there was nothing he could do which brings it close to home. Billy Bob symbolically representing the second coyote comforting the fallen coyote and taking up the position to keep the company alive.

Kinda like life. There's always a sacrifice.
