Come with me if you want to re-live...

...40 years of that sci-fi classic - The Terminator.

surely this is the movie that made both of them, Arnie and Cameron into major stars.

Did anyone see this when it hit the screens in 1984? Or did you catch it on video, TV, DVD?

As well all know, the post-apocalyptic future is set in the year 2029. But characters seem to make statements that don't quite accurately measure the gap between the future and whatever present year each movie is set in.

In the first Terminator, (set in 1984) when Sarah Connor tells Kyle Reese that Terminators aren't possible with the technology at the time, Kyle says they won't be for "another 40 years". By that statement, the future would be in 2024.

In Judgement Day, (set in 1995) when John Connor asks the reprogrammed T-800 who sent him to his year, the latter responds that it was the former's future self "35 years from now". Counting the years leading up to the war with the machines, wouldn't that make the future year 2030? Or the present year 1994?

@Wol62 I love how they had the same psychologist in the sequel and he finally gets to see the cyberdyne.

Or...broadly speaking, history, and what technology is developed at any given point, is actively changing due to the influence of time travel.

I thought Conan was Arnie's big breakthrough, but it might have been TERMINATOR.
