Baffling movies and TV

Have you ever watched anything that evertyone seems to think is awesome and yet to you its like a steaming pile of horse dump?
I just binge watched "the English",a western drama on UK TV starring Emily Blunt.
It does have a lot to commend it,high production values,and she is always excellent in her roles,but i could not remotely understand a minute of it.Was it trying to be an exciting drama,or was it trying to make statements about mans inhumanity to man?It didnt seem to be clear on its plot,which was rambling,seeming to have many threads that didnt really link up well.
I found the same with the "Godfather"trilogy.Coundnt make sense of it.
