I don’t know what would lead you to dismiss him as “evil” after watching it, as I think the series did well at conveying his lack of control over his compulsions. To me, it showed that he was a human being with a story, and not just a “monster”. If you’re interested in psychology, you can’t just be calling people evil without considering other factors lol.

@Sweetpoison I don’t think he was aware of the implications, and he didn’t recognize his victims as being people with their own needs (like the need to live). Without a doubt, he was consumed by his desires and by his compulsions.
Another aspect to this is that he wanted to take responsibility for what he did, as opposed to denying it or blaming it on other people and other factors. These factors, though, are all really important in establishing why he became that person. I’d also note that he didn’t have a great handle on his life in any remote sense. I mean come on, he was an alcoholic who had/lost multiple jobs, had no real friends, no hobbies or interests, had abandonment issues, a weird sense of humor used as a coping mechanism, an array of obsessive qualities (continually watching the same tapes over and over again), and many other issues that caused him to be alone and isolated.
He wasn’t a well man, at all.

@SW-User sure he wasn’t a well man and sure he might have abandonment issues and maybe felt like he was a loser… but wanting to take responsability for what he did doesn’t means he regret what he did, he had no empathy.

@Sweetpoison
Most of us have empathy to some degree, even people like him. I think it was probably subdued by his overwhelming desire to do what he wanted and once you start doing destructive things, it can be really hard to stop.
Empathy can be fleeting. One moment you may feel it, and the next it could be gone. At times, it can be very nuanced. Sometimes you can’t grasp it at all. Other times, maybe it’s really palpable and you genuinely care. Everything depends on the circumstances and your way of being in that very moment, I think.
Some people are able to reach a point where they know that doing harm leads to more harm, and that this won’t do them any favors in the end.
Clearly, Dahmer never reached that point.

I heard that the families of the victims are very upset over the series....

@DeluxedEdition Wow. You’re right. sounds like you got everyone figured out. Congratulations!

I know I’m right. Or I wouldn’t have said it
If it was your son who got raped and killed and eaten as a sick fetish and made into a dishonest series that didn’t even accurately describe the actual story for entertainment. you would be singing a different tune
I know I’m right. Or I wouldn’t have said it

@DeluxedEdition You speak, therefore it is and must be! I love it!

if youre into psychology and want to understand why then dont watch a dramatization, watch the real interviews with him and other people 🤣 so many people keep saying this... I get it, it's more fun with drama, but they're taking creative liberties, and fueling a disgusting industry to be real.

@SW-User he loved him his dark meat!🌭

@Sweetpoison In the interview he said there way no tactic behind it, he just thought they were sexier
SW-User
@Sweetpoison lol no.
As he said, he just chose people he found most attractive. I can’t deny that convenience is a factor as well...that’s still got nothing to do with race though.

I'm into psychology and i watched the interviews years ago. It's almost scary how calm and collected he was, almost like he was 100% in acceptance of the type of person he was.
The show i feel in some parts wanted viewers to feel sorry for him then bam the Tony Hughes story ( although not all true ) made you realise nothing could of made him change the compulsions well and truly took over.
As normal childhood always plays a big part, like his father believes I've no doubt whatever medication his mother took during pregnancy didnt help. Along with his father showing him how to dissect animal's.
The sad thing is he didn't even try and cover his tracks well a lot of lives could of been saved if the police did what they were meant to correctly.
We can only come to our own conclusion. Innocent lives were taken due to dahmer's compulsions which in the end over took any rational thoughts he may of had.
In his interviews i agree with one strong thing he said, he deserves to be locked up as the compulsions still come back from time to time.
I don't think nothing could of saved him but the amount of lives he took would of not been so high if only things were dealt with as they should of been at that time.

Which episode did you watch? The series was very very well done. Think the lead actor deserves some recognition. Even the guy playing his dad.
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
@SW-User ???? Well it’s true. What’s your point?

@SW-User calm your self
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
He did have regrets. He tried a few times in the show to talk to his dad about what was happening but his dad brushed him off. No he’s not wired right but he couldn’t control himself. I do believe he regretted some of his actions. Plus his childhood was a shitshow and his parents were never there for him to even notice what was happening. They were both completely absorbed in themselves
Sweetpoison · 41-45, F
@Jenny1234 i think he did not have regrets toward the victims… maybe just for his own ego
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Sweetpoison no maybe not toward the victims themselves but I think he regretted some of his actions.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
like liars that lie without a reason or cause don't try to make sense of it cause there just isn't any
Sweetpoison · 41-45, F
@FurryFace probably…
sometimes there is no why they are just wired oddly
Sweetpoison · 41-45, F
@metaldog yeah … 😞
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@metaldog You can try to understand how they're wired though ^^
@MartinTheFirst of course and often it's a mixture of chemistry, dna and early trauma
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
What episode are you on? The whole series is just crazy.
Sweetpoison · 41-45, F
@Jenny1234 where he got in jail
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Sweetpoison thats the one I watched last night
Funkyfreakshow · 26-30, M
Dahmer was an enigma to even top psychologists, hence why he is still so heavily talked about and studied. He had normal tendencies such as consciousness and even feelings of empathy and remorse, so it stumped a lot of doctors on how he could process and execute the acts he did. All in all, he was an evil whack-job, but no one could figure out why.
SW-User
Well, it's a SHOW, It has to be entertaining
but doesn't actually needs to be educational.
All Serial Killers have only one Why? They are just Evil.
They would want to give a lot of reasons to depict themselves differently but at the end of the day they all are same "pieces of sh#ts who didn't care about human lives".

Yep I’ve seen it … Peter Evans did a excellent portrayal, it was so friggin dark and disturbing 😳
He was a monster and nothing will ever justify what he did to those poor young men.
A complete sicko!

Absolutely… it’s human nature to be curious about the monsters I hear you *shivers lol 👀@Sweetpoison
