Columbo fans...

On the episode "Any old port in a storm", how did turning off the a/c prove that Adrian Carsinni murdered his brother?

Why would an enthusiastic lover of wine turn off the A/C in his cellar, knowing that all his wine will be spoilt as a result? A man who is more in love with wine than with people. Wine meant more to that man than money, maybe more than life. And why didn't he call his insurance after? Why did he keep it a secret?
Of course it's not valid evidence that will stand up in court, but hey, it'a a crime show, and a very good one 😏

@helenS Oh, but what doesn't stand up in court is often great underbelly for fodder and might lead to an answer? I'm talking off the top of my hat, it will show, but you know those directors of crimes shows?

The wine got over 150 degrees and spoiled it. Columbo steeks a bottle if the wi e and has it served at the restaurant. Adrian says its spolied.

@1olderguy20 I know.. I just thought it was lame

@SW-User it was a little. But taking into account the ego òf the antagonist it makes sense

Columbo had evidence that the victim never left the vineyard after seeing his brother. Since he died of suffocation, the only place that could have happened was the wine vault. And it could only have happened if the ventilation was switched off. There was no reason to turn it off except to kill the victim. The wine was spoiled, due to over heating. It established the means. Means, motive, and opportunity was what Columbo needed to convict.

Because Lieutenant Columbo said so ! duh

I actually remember that episode. I don’t remember how that proved it.

@MrBrownstone Then why bother to reply when you don't know the answer. Just kidding, lol

The vault was air tight. The ventilation was turned off to kill the victim.
The spoiled wine proved that the ventilation was turned off. There was no other reason to turn it off. And only an expert would be able tell if the wine went bad, from overheating.

No idea re the episode -- seen them all but years ago -- but a wine cellar is traditionally in the cellar because underground is cooler?
