I was watching "The Great Gatsby" recently…

I watched both the 1974 version with Robert Redford, and the 2013 remake starring Leo DiCaprio. I read the book in high school, back around the time the first movie came out.
Both movies were very well done, but the 1974 version hinted, 2013 spelled a lot of it out. 2013 also had some anachronisms that the earlier movie didn’t.

There was a theme throughout the first movie, Irving Berlin’s "What’ll I Do", a beautiful song where Redford and Mia Farrow danced together. This recording is almost 100 years old now, still very haunting:

I read the book first and then saw the first movie. I was so disappointed in the film version I never bothered to see the second movie. That usually happens to me when I see what Hollywood does with literature.
@bowman81 Parts of the 2013 version were truer to the book, but both were probably more the result of screenplay adaptations of the book. Which most movies tend to be, alas.
