I was watching "The Great Gatsby" recently…

I watched both the 1974 version with Robert Redford, and the 2013 remake starring Leo DiCaprio. I read the book in high school, back around the time the first movie came out.
Both movies were very well done, but the 1974 version hinted, 2013 spelled a lot of it out. 2013 also had some anachronisms that the earlier movie didn’t.

There was a theme throughout the first movie, Irving Berlin’s "What’ll I Do", a beautiful song where Redford and Mia Farrow danced together. This recording is almost 100 years old now, still very haunting:

There are further anachronisms when your artsy home town decide to host a night in spirit of tourism (Great Gatsby inspired) that only celebrates the celebrity of the small town. They might as well say, by the power invested by the arts community and mayor we support only thee.
