Was Pans Labyrinth launched/intended as a children’s movie?

Bc the dude with eyes in his hands is scary as $h!t. I cannot imagine little kids watching this in the theatre without freaking out.

You can show/tell children anything as long as there's a happy ending.
@Doomflower hahahah true! Didn’t think of it like that.

@DecafD I think it's a Roald Dahl quote

The tale is a beautiful fable (young girl uses her imagination to escape the unhappiness and violence of her real life) that would be ideal for children, but the director of the film is certainly not into making childrens films. I have an 11 year old niece who could probably just about cope with it, but my 13 year old niece definitely couldn't.

I used to own a copy of that movie. Pretty good. Also quite gorey.
Definitely not a children's movie.
