Interstellar (2014)

So I finally took the time to watch "Interstellar" from 2014. And it's one of those movies that make me feel ashamed I didn't make time up until now. It looks incredible, the acting is good, the plot is good, ... It's just really solid and soothing to the eye.

If you have nothing to do during this COVID thing and you haven't seen this yet. This is worth your time. A Science Fiction film done right. Even though "time" is a bitch when it comes to the plot. It's not as bad as timetravel movies, but there are certain questions that aren't answered. But there are ways to explain why things happen like they happen in the movie.

The movie got weird at the end

@Classified yep it does... but it explains a lot more then I thought it would.

@Kwek00 It grasps back to the beginning of the movie, but in a freaky way

@Classified Well, it has to explain what happened in the beginning. Which it kinda does. It just doesn't really explain how the first itteration of the event takes place. But considering that "they" is being perceived as entities that can understand the 5th dimension. It's possible that these beings are a possible outcome of an iteration that we don't get to see.

In overall, I think it does the science pretty good, and well, the fiction lets you wonder what the possibilities are. It's a story that kinda clings to the people that watched it. And it also reflects on us as a species in the connection that we have to technology and our knowledge. And in the end, that's kinda what science fiction needs to do. Unlike Star Wars... which for me, is more "space-fantasy".

@Kwek00 I certainly enjoyed them movie, only a lot of was 'this could be real' and that ending let that go completely. Also it was sort of deterministic. Since it already happened he could have made a different choice this time, but really couldn't.

@Classified The way how I look at the weirdness, is that we are getting a glimpse of an itteration of the universe where humankind made all the descisions that had to be made to make them survive extinction and let them evolve (over time) to these entities that are able to live and function in the 5th dimension (or even more?). Anny changes to the timeline would create an itteration where all that happened didn't happen, and thus humanities faith would not get where it needs to be. It's just one itteration of an endless possibilities of outcomes that are all depending on actors making the choices that need to be made to come to the determined point the universe we are watching came too be.

@Kwek00 🤯
You noticed a lot more in that movie than I did
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Classified Well a lot needs to go right to get to the point where they are. Like what are the odds that our protagonist is the guy that does what he needs to do. Those odds are incredible, because later in the movie you find out that the protagonist is the person that puts himself on his path to do what needs to be done.Like how manny iterations are there, that he does this WITHOUT sending himself the message in the first place. Like, how does he end up where he ends up in the end if he didn't send himself the message... because one of himself needs to do it first. I don't know how to explain then that, without introducing multiple dimensions, and we are just watching one of them, where all the dice has fallen exactly as they need too to come to this result. ... But hey, that's just my hypothesis, what actually is the story behind it all, we'll never now... it's part of the mysterie, the fictional element of the story.

@Kwek00 So in the end it wasn't only about time and gravity, but about dimensions too? No wonder it got confusing
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Classified I don't know, I'm saying that's my hypothesis. If you have a better one, I would like to hear it.

This entire project that NASA was working on, only had a chance because a wormhole popped open near Saturn. This wormhole opening is attributed to "they". We don't know if "they" actually did it, but it's unlikely to me. Say that "they" opened this wormhole to give the protagonist a chance to succeed so "they" can come into excistence. I think that creates paradox, beause that means there is an iteration where "they" come into being withouth the wormhole excisting. But apperently this wormhome is essential for them because that's why "they" open it. So maybe that thing randomly popped up due to some space anomalie that isn't furter explored. (for example: it has something to do with the blak hole that is near the exit of the tunnel?). I don't think it's a "miracle", but maybe it has a reason that wasn't explored. We only get the perspective of the humans, and they are just explorers.

If you can overcome that issue, this cooper guy is the perfect subject to do what he has to do apperently. So there has to be a point that someone goes through the wormhole, have some kind of freakish adventure, come to a point where Cooper gets to go into space, come to the point where he can message himself and do what he has to do. This Cooper guy is living miles away? And in the part we see, we know for a fact that he only goes to where he needs to go because he messages himself. So there has to be a reality where someone starts this storyline, because without himself he wouldn't be where he needs to be.

@Kwek00 Iterations of realities. You do succeed in making the movie more interesting. It's still difficult to grasp and it needs to start somewhere, hence your paradox.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Classified The wormhole is only a paradox if "they" open it. You can solve that if there is a reason for the wormhole to come into excistence because of natural causes. And a wormhole is a fixed trajection, in the movie they couldn't use their exuipment to steer. So it's comparible to walking through a door, where you go from one room to another. Except that this door connects 2 diffrent points in space that by our normal understanding shouldn't be connected. Chances of all that happening... lol, not really big though. I know people that would say 0, but a small chance is still a chance. And then after that... someone has to make the first loop happen. It's deff not time travel, because I believe they saying something that only gravity can go back in time. That's why the phenomena they experienced are all connected to gravity.

In the staffroom at the brieving in the beginning of the movie. One of the scientists said that they experienced other phenomena too. (1:00)

So if this wormhole comes into exsitence in a natural way, then a lot stuff can happen, with diffrent people doing their thing, diffrent messages back by gravitation (hence the other phenomena) which eventually leads to the movie we see.

@Kwek00 I'm sorry, you're telling a lot, but I'm not following it all. Thanks for trying though 😅
