They’re terrible now movies used to be so good are used to be excited and look forward to them I rarely ever I’m excited about anything coming out now

The big-time American studios have severely restricted their investments in anything other than huge, tentpole action spectaculars, most of which are, honestly, Extruded Entertainment Product®. There's nothing wrong with those sorts of movies inherently, but they're more likely to be disappointing because they have to focus on appealing to the lowest common denominator in order to bring in enough viewers to even make their money back, let alone to make a profit.
If you want to find well-made smaller movies, you kind of have to look for venues that play independent releases, or you have to look at various streaming services. Prime Video has a lot of good movies if you dig through their offerings, as does Hulu and Netflix. And there are more specialized streaming services such as Sundance Now, The Criterion Channel, IndieFlix and so on.
So, that's a long-winded way of saying yeah, the movies you're likely to see at your local multiplex aren't as good as they used to be, but there are good movies to be found if you look.

@DunningKruger True. Plus I have watched some good movies on Prime that I've never heard of. Sucks that not all of them are free to watch though.

Most of the movies I watch are from the 1940s-50s and are in b&w.

Definitely more money is spent on CGI than the script in most cases...

@ozgirl512 True, and even those don't look so good sometimes.

@SW-User yes... Story has taken a back seat ...

SW-User
No. I still see some good ones. They just don't tend to be the ones given much attention.

Yes. 80’s action movies are timeless. It was cool back then, now it’s comedy gold

SW-User
Yeah. As soon as they added sound, it all went downhill...
