I don't get Horror movies nowadays

I mean, the whole concept is good vs evil, but evil always end up winning which in most cases, that is the true, but it's always the same, the "vanquish" the evil, just so it pops out in the last second of the movie, like a shoddy way to try to make way for a sequel or leaving the feeling that, this isn't over. and they never portrait the good as in another force, it's the human or the victim or the person that is the good, they sacrifice themselves for nothing.

Stephen King had a formula. He would create some really nice, normal people, allow you to bond with them, and then let the monsters loose. Or so he said.

I think in his writing, it was more about the effect of evil on the good. The good were not required to win.

And you are correct...Hollywood writers take good work, like that of Stephen King, and alter it and twist it and make it shoddy.

@4meAndyou yeah I binge watched a few horror movies last night and it was always the same thing. If the devil can show up and try to invade my body, why there isn't an angel, a whisper of God, why it has to be, I'm all alone but I'll do what's right even when it doesn't pay up in the end. and yeah from The Dark tower, to It 2, to the dreamcatcher. just to mention a few of stephen king work that have been butchered for the screen.

@Dancingxghost Regarding possession by the devil, there was one horror movie , (I can't remember the title), that DID show that the hero made it inside a church, and the devil DID win and possessed the guy because he said "Take ME! Leave her alone! Take ME instead!", but then all this light came in through the windows, hit a statue of the Archangel Michael, which then fell over and impaled the devil with his sword inside the human body of the hero. In that instance, good DID triumph. Evil was slain, and the human who died sacrificed himself for another...and that is always considered to be SUPER good.

@4meAndyou that movie, is the end of days with Arnold schwarzenegger. but that was a 90's movies, before every single movie had the same plot regarding posession.
I agree. If evil wins, where's the entertainment?

@Mamapolo2016 not only that, but the way they portrait the hero, he or she ends up sacrificing his/her life just to let the evil go on it's merry way at the end of the movie, evil does not always thriump in real life, it shouldn't do it in the movies as well.
That's what horror books and movies are for me. Yes, it will get nasty, but good has a fighting chance.

Without that, it's just an assault in a dark alley.@Dancingxghost

@Mamapolo2016 always, after all even those who walk the evil ways have a chance of redemption. nothing is really black or white, we aren't. we are not entirely good neither entirely bad. but no, there is no complexity anymore.

I dont even find them scary anymore
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@Summersrain not only not scary, they are way too overproduced in terms of special effects, the scare is no longer a scare is more of a, hey look we have this really creepy monster, or it's so creepy we can't even see it.

I agree. 🙄I haven't seen one I liked in ages. Although I stumbled on an older one that I missed called "House Of Nine." Nine strangers, with no apparent connection between them are abducted and taken to a house where they are pitted against one another to survive. It was gripping!😱 Chilling!😬
