What movie star from the old days would be just as big a star today?

Great question! A few people pop out immediately: Vivien Leigh, Cary Grant, Montgomery Clift, Clark Gable, Ingrid Bergman, Judy Garland, Laurence Olivier, Errol Flynn, Lana Turner.....geez, the list is massive. There were so so many talented people and many of them were triple threats. They performed well on the stage, could sing and dance, and most important they could adapt to their characters unlike many of stars we have today.

Probably Gene Kelly ... he seems to be a triple threat

I can't help but think that if Joan Crawford was still alive, she'd make sure she never left the spotlight.

Humphrey Bogart, Jimmy Stewart, Sidney Poitier, Ingrid Bergman, and the Hepburns.

John Wayne was 6'4". lol
Paul Robeson, Ethel Waters, Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge would be bigger stars today because they could all act, sing and dance and would be less impacted by legal segregation.
