I tried rewatching "Attack of the Clones." It is such a mix of good and bad.

Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiarmid are fantastic in the roles of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Sheev Palpatine, respectively. But a lot of the dialogue is super corny and lame, and some of the Anakin/Padme scenes are so cringy-inducing and awkward that they're nigh impossible to watch. And honestly, Natalie Portman just sucks.

I'm comfortable saying Clones is the worst Star Wars movie, and most of them aren't that great.

@CountScrofula The original trilogy is fantastic. The prequels are fun but they're not that great. The story lines in them are good but the acting is atrocious, and some of the special effects are godawful. The two installments thus far in the new trilogy have been hit or miss. Episode VII was pretty good, although Rey was not very likable as a main character. Episode VIII had a lot of problems, and although I liked it, it was probably the worst of the bunch so far. Rogue One was awesome, and Solo was really good too.

@BlueMetalChick I haven't seen Solo but most have told me Solo was bad.

@basilfawlty89 Solo was the victim of a significant amount of undue hate mostly because of its development process and letting down people's pre-release expectations. The movie, when no other information is presented, is actually quite good.

@CountScrofula if you shit on Empire, I will disown you

@basilfawlty89 Nobody hates Empire, it's objectively the best movie by a long shot.

@BlueMetalChick I haven't actually seen Solo but intend to. Here's my basic rundown of the movies:

OT: IV is a bad B movie that comes across as a great action movie. That's a compliment. It's pure movie candy. Empire is brilliant. Mixed opinions on Jedi.

Prequels: Incompetent movies from the world's most obvious case of Dunning-Kruger. They're all atrociously bad.

Sequels: 7 is a fun action movie if creatively bankrupt.

8 is ... weird. It's great and awful at the same time and clearly obsessed with the meta-narrative of Star Wars fandom and their expectations. It didn't leave me excited for more Star Wars.

@CountScrofula I'm mostly in agreement although I liked Return of the Jedi a lot. The only big detraction were the Ewoks, but I can get past them pretty easily since their role is relatively minor. The rest of the film is phenomenal.

I'm more forgiving of the prequels than you are. Are they good? Well, for the most part, no. The acting was abysmal, with the exceptions of McGregor and McDiarmid, the two Scotsmen. Even Samuel Jackson, who is possibly my favorite actor in the world, was pretty lackluster in the role of Mace Windu. And the set pieces were terrible as well, unconvincing and cheesy. But I had the advantage of reading the prequel series in comic form, which was much, much more enjoyable. So I went into the prequels with knowledge of what was going to happen, and a lenience to the story line, which was actually pretty enjoyable. Hayden Christensen was a mistake, and Natalie Portman has always been a loser. Those two were what really, really fucked up the prequels. And of course Jake Lloyd as child Anakin. I hate to beat up on a little kid actor but god that character was awful.

Agreed on Episodes VII and VIII.

What'd you think of Rogue One?
