For me it's the scene in the Deer Hunter where they're all drinking and singing after the wedding and the deer hunt and then one of them begins to play Chopin on the bar piano and it cuts through the mood like a knife. The characters get their first moment of quiet contemplation in the movie and then it cuts directly to the horrors of the Vietnam War. It's always stuck in my mind.

Edit: found the scene

@FuzeBar I was deeply moved by the Russian Roulette scenes. 👍

Definitely. Savage, DeNiro, and Walken were at the top of their game in those, especially the latter 2.

@Montanaman It was the most intense, immediate and memorable scene in all of mainstream war cinema. Its unforced repetition and outcome, in the post-war local gambling scene, was truly ghastly.

@UpForItNow pure insanity. As war is.
