Anyone rememeber "Goo Lagoon" from Spongebob? The beach where the fish would go swimming?

And everyone used to ask "How can they go swimming in the lagoon if they're already underwater?" It's technically possible. Goo Lagoon was probably a brine pool. Brine is water which contains an exceptionally high concentration of salt, from three to eight times as much as the surrounding seawater, which makes it much more dense. And as such, it sinks to the bottom and does not easily mix with the normal ocean water around it. This can create underwater "lakes" of brine which have distinct surface levels and a sort of "shoreline" where the brine ends and runs back into lower salinity seawater. Submarines have traveled into brine pools and found themselves floating on its surface. So the concept of a body of water where fish could go swimming under the ocean's surface is totally possible.

Except for the salinity killing them, sure why not.

@kayoshin True, but then again, Patrick survived an anvil being dropped on his head from about twenty feet up, Squidward survived being saturated in gasoline and lit on fire (twice), and Spongebob survived being put through a can opener, so I guess they're able to survive the extreme saltiness of brine pools as well.

Your point was that it was possible in real life, none of your examples in the reply are valid in real life except the anvil since patrick doesn't have a head and would most likely regenerate the extremity lost to the anvil. So they are all dead. Or maybe they are all just a squirrel's halucination caused by diver sickness.

@kayoshin It wouldn't have been possible from the start because brine pools don't have waves on their surface capable of being surfed upon anyway. Unfortunately. Because that would be pretty cool.

What if you had a deep water explosion or earthquake, wouldn't the shockwave act like waves?
