I agree completely, and I think that it's evidence of a poorly thought out adaptation when you have to invent miscellaneous original characters (aforementioned Elf and the Pale Orc) or introduce unneeded subplots.
Also, you're correct about the Dwarves. I feel that mining and/or combat would have marred those pretty faces, not to mention the point that Aule shaped them from stone.

@RemovedUsername8862 Damn straight!!! They looked like little humans, rather than Dwarves! They should have gotten some real big lads, like Brendan Gleeson and such, actors like him, put on beards and make up and the like. Not handsome little pretty boys, who looked like they're best used as priest's catamites.
