Whatever the objective we had plenty of time to achieve it yet it was a total disaster.

Regime change wasn’t what was needed.
Self-determination was.

There are no Proper owners. The country is a series of Tribal areas controlled by warlords and has been for generations. No foreign power has ever managed to change that.😷

I appreciate your intentions but that sounds like colonialism for the betterment of the natives. That hasn't worked out too well in other places and is not a popular idea in the world today, generally.

Also, not trying to tell you you are wrong, but we never 'had' Afgh.

We were IN Afgh, but it was never ours and we never really controlled anything. The reports I saw were that after a new recruit in the Afghani Army would be issued a weapon, US forces would find him with a buddy out on a remote stretch of road setting up a road block to extort people ($) when they drove by. The entire country is corrupt.

We had no need to be there.
We had no goals, no purpose, no reason to occupy Afgh. We should have bailed 18 years ago, before our boy's blood was wasted on that hell hole.

Who are the proper owners?

Afghanistan was never won. And the Taliban took advantage of fading American interest due to Covid-19 and a divided country.

The original owners? You mean the Afghan people? That's exactly what we just did.

It was training ground for terrorists. That's why America attacked Afghanistan after 9/11. During these 20 years they were fighting for their own survival, so they could not manage more attacks. Now they have got opportunity to flourish. I don't expect these stupids to learn lesson or start behaving like saints.
