Why can't the voices in my head be positive why do they have to be negative with insults instead of positive compliments?

These Voices inside me tell me I'm ugly, worthless and that I should die, they also tell me i'm a mistake and they make jokes about my southern accent and body.

Because being negative and critical is easier for whoever said that to you. It was easier to call you awful things than to actually be a decent human. None of those voices are yours. No baby or child comes out thinking they are worthless. They are told that and made to believe it.

🎶Change the voices (change the voices)
In your head (in your head)
Make them like you instead🎶

Change the voices, find positive things to focus on.
Get a hobby.
If something isn't working, do something different.

I've wondered the same. I'm lucky I don't have these voices myself but my partner does. I wish they could be nice instead of mean and scary.

@OogieBoogie yes please
@Peaceandnamaste ok...I have to explain it so you understand why, or rather how we think the thoughts we do .

You have to imagine that your brain is like this thick forest , and 'thoughts' are like paths thru it.
As we grow - we make new paths thru this forest - we make 'neural' pathways .
This is how we learn

The more we think a certain thought - the stronger and wider the path gets .
The wider the path gets , the easier it is to walk down, (or think ....ie -.remember)

Sometimes we make paths so strong they become roads or even highways that connect to other paths. We learn to map our world in our head and connect it all together.

Now.....you have some paths that lead to awful places .(negative thoughts). Places you don't want to go .
You've probably thought them so many times - they now have become a road , connected to so many paths ....you find yourself back on them even though that's not where you intended to go .

However , just as we make these paths by using them (thinking those thoughts)
The reverse can happen :
....If we stop using certain paths , they become overgrown , hard to see, easy to miss - this is how we forget stuff.

And you want to forget right ?
.....or at least not find yourself thinking these thoughts - walking these paths

Here comes the hard part :
- you have to stop walking them and let them become overgrown.

When these thoughts happen - as soon as you realize you're thinking them - you think of something else ....anything .
Doing something can help :
Wash your hands
Brush your teeth
Hum a tune
Sing a little ditty
- force your brain onto another path .

At first - you might do this 50 times a day .

You might have to do it every 2 minutes coz your brain wants you back there , on that path -.dont let it .
Say a mantra ....count to 20 ...think anything else except what it wants you to .

(Note here- don't use media to do this - this is a mental exercise - you are training your brain .
So you have to make your brain grow muscles so to speak 😂)

The idea is to bring your mind back into this very moment - the present, and stop it walking down that old path at any cost .

Now ....it'll take a while .
Prolly months .

You'll fuck up sometimes ....and that's ok .

But eventually ....it'll get easier .

Instead of it being really hard , you'll find it takes less time to do it....less effort .

Find out what works for you .

I used to walk outside (or look out a window) and say something like "up and out , be gone be free" to myself over and over and over in my head .

It's now 2 years later and these thoughts don't haunt my days anymore .
I'm not drowning in them .

I'm not saying they don't come - they do .
But I have so much more control over them now .
And interestingly - less emotional attachment to some .

Basically this is what people mean when they say "let it go " .
Which is an snappy little phrase , but does t tell you how .....is fucking hard to do in reality .

I hope you managed to understand all this , I know it was long .

But it's about 2+ years worth of searching and study reduced down to its core essentials .

Hope it helps 💚🤗🙏💜
