I don't know what to do with my life.

I have PTSD and it interferes with my ability to work because I can't focus or function on the job.

I've never tried to get government benefits for it because it's not like it was caused by any single, life threatening event like people assume — it's complex PTSD, formed over decades of something that I genuinely feel uncomfortable describing, but it was traumatic.

I've always just tried to power through it. I got fired from my last, good job because the people there just assumed I was lazy. I've been in a dark place since then.

My parents house me, currently.

Based on what my parents provide for me, and the fact that my disorder wasn't caused by a "tangible" event like war, I just don't have faith that anyone — even a social worker — will look at me and think "this guy qualifies for assistance".

I think my only choice is to just get another job, stop mooching off my parents, and try that uphill battle again.

This sucks.

PTSD is a monster. My job is 10x harder because of the PTSD but it’s remote and it makes it a bit easier and I do have fmla and an ada accommodations. My best advice is keep up with your rehab and see if someone in your state has more suggestions. Just because you were not at war doesn’t mean your pain isn’t real and it definitely doesn’t mean you don’t deserve help.
@SinlessOnslaught I know you are hon and I am so sorry I hate this so much for you because I know how hard it is. 🤗 I don’t have the best advice just know you’re not alone and there are a bunch of people here who care deeply about you 🤗
