how do you handle being triggered with ptsd

i have ptsd, and my traumas happened 30 years ago, where i was physically attacked and harrassed...but in the present my trauma can easily return if i'm triggered, traumatic memories return...then i feel overly angry, out of control and feel like dishing out revenge or vengeance.

i'm also in the grip of extreme anxiety to when i go out, so difficult emotions to work through...i often get triggered with all these emotions and memories when people make loud noises, or i'm around young boisterous lads at the gym who banter each other.

when i go out i try to stay in control, and concentrate on what i'm doing but it's hard to do that for me....can anyone give any tips or advice?

Honestly the best help for PTSD is therapy. I never believed in it myself, but I realized just how bad mine was a year ago. I was physically and sexually abused by my parents when I was a child. So I understand your frustration. The only thing that has helped me and saved my marriage was therapy, because I finally let someone help me, because you can’t fight it on your own.

@darkmere1983 it took me many many times to actually open up with a therapist and get help. I was stubborn and thought I could do it on my own and did not acknowledge that I had a problem. If you are ready for help it will help, if you’re not ready for it you will just quit going because sometimes you don’t like what they have to say lol. PTSD sucks I know, but you can definitely manage it. I wish you luck!!
