Ptsd nightmares

They ruin your whole day. For me I don’t actually have nightmares of specific events I just have really horrible nightmares and wake up crying or jolting usually because I am fighting in my dream and end up kicking and wake myself up

For example, I had a nightmare that both of my children got kidnapped. I knew exactly who did it. I went to his house and tried to confront him and he wouldn’t let me in. His neighbor told me now that I showed up and confronted him he was going to move. The entire dream I was searching for my kids endlessly. I was tired and couldn’t even go to bed and go to sleep. I was crying the entire dream until I woke up crying

I had a lot of important things that I had to do today. I’m not really able to do anything because of the nightmare I had. I don’t really feel comfortable expressing this one. At five pm my sons grandpa is going to help me do one of the errands

I am very disappointed in myself but I am not going to beat myself up. I like to think about this picture I think today I am “your” and “different”

i finally learned years ago to complete the dream after i woke and create a positive outcome...then my dreaming stopped

@1490wayb this is something I learned in therapy to do with recurring nightmares

@1490wayb I actually know exactly what ur talking about

I had this happen to me twice. The first time i kept having recurring apocalyptic dreams. Everywhere I traveled there was no one left in the world. I was traveling looking for food and survivors endlessly. Finally I ended up going to the country and there were people living off the land and it was “happily ever after” I stopped having those nightmares

Another example of this was I kept dreaming of being drown. I had these horrific nightmares about drowning different ways or watching my kids drown. Finally one night I was watching a tsunami coming at me. Instead of running away out of fear I turned around and faces the tsunami. And as soon as it hit me the tsunami exploded and turned into glitter and dispersed. I stoped having those drowning dreams after that

@itsok how do you know how to complete the dream? From my experience I have completed my dreams I just don’t really know how. For example I didn’t know going to the country or facing the wave would end the cycle

@DeluxedEdition mine was about flying and not being able to land...kept bouncing off runway and back into the air repeatedly.
i finally realized this is silly!! just kill the engine and shove the stick forward then hit the brake...

@DeluxedEdition you can do it when you wake up. I would write out the dream and then write out a different ending

@DeluxedEdition
This was when we first started working on it. So I had the thought that I could fight back. Now I would like write (or think) out in as much detail as possible, how I would fight. And then go over the dream again in my head with the new ending.
I will say though, that I don’t know if I could’ve done this initially on my own because I don’t want to think more about it. I just want to shut down. It was nice having someone who could help me actually do the work and help with ideas when I was distancing myself from it
