@berangere I will admit that luck was involved. And had it not been for my company having an EAP the connection would not have been made. But overall, things became clear not only the damage being done to me but also our son.

@SageWanderer Yes, considering it was 40 years ago,you were very lucky to have found such an intelligent and observant therapist,as in those days often the blame was put on the victim as if they must have somewhat deserved it.Often the victim was told to "forgive and forget" by the narc,mine did and to "forgive" by other people who did not have a clue and believe that "forgiveness" was a cure all!

@berangere A lot of that was ban the other cheek. ed on the "Christian" thought of forgive and turn the other cheek. i don't really know how he picked up I was in such a situation, more over was able to point out the damage our son was suffering from it. Once my eyes were opened I got out quickly, despite the pleas of her wanting to change.
