If it can be done with minimal drama say to her that you can't make it, be vague and not like "i'm not celebrating".

@BooksRMe I'm planning on "being sick and contagious" when the day comes.
Being vague is of no use. She once threatened to make me a surprise party, then got mad at me when I hesitated. I hate surprises, so I was simply hesitating to find the right words to stop her.
She immediately went to her usual rant about "I don't know what I've done to make you hate me so much. I should just end my life so you don't have to deal with me anymore" and so on...

@TheRealBarbossa Is she religious? Being sick sounds like it could work. Whatever her reactions, I trust that only arguing would be going on, when she gets angry, see if the silent treatment helps.

@BooksRMe not religious, no. Only when trying to impress religious people 🙄
I tried the silent treatment after our first (and only fight) last december. She managed to sneak her way back in somehow.

Just tell her you have other plans.
Don't engage beyond that.

@Picklebobble2 sis was forced to tell her.
Long story short: mom is an absolute psycho, and if anyone says anything she disagrees with she threatens to end her life in a way that makes that someone a suspect.
She's given us detailed plans multiple times over the years, so we all know she's capable of framing us.
My sisters and nieces all hope she'll end it, but mess up doing so in such a way noone will be held responsible. Even stepdad (the father of my 2 youngest sisters) hopes so, because he's too scared of her to simply divorce her.

@TheRealBarbossa 'forced to tell her' ?
You give her way too much power over you.
Anyone who threatens you is committing a crime !
Have her arrested and follow through making a complaint of harassment.

@Picklebobble2 word against word doesn't work here in Norway, sadly.
And yes, she forced my sister to tell her about the plans. Otherwise she would have threatened what I described above, or worse.
I don't blame you for thinking she's not as powerful as I describe her to be, but I promise you: she's horrible and scary af. Not to mention capable of anything.
