I Can't Believe I'm Not Insane Yet

So how's this for utter stupidity:

Bestie's son has severe dyslexia and pronunciation issues. Very smart kid but reading issues, that's all. He's in geography class yesterday and he pronounces Nigeria as niggeria.

His parents are strict with media and home rules so he's never even heard the word nigger and was crazy confused over why he's in trouble at all because the teacher and principal won't explain.

So bestie had to leave work, drive back over the mountain passes, 32 miles because the principal refuses to say what happened, just that the poor kid is getting suspended.

Yep, suspended... for saying a word by accident because he mispronounced and doesn't understand long versus short letter sounds. AND yesterday was last Friday before spring break. So he's suspended... during spring break.

What?

Of course he isn't in trouble because he honestly is clueless and wasn't given an actual explanation by his elders so yeah. Just such a stupid situation.

Crazy. As if a kid that age was trying to be disrespectful. You’re right, he’s probably never heard that word in his life.
@76starships He didn't. He asked his parents what nigger means and they told him to ask me apparently lol. Nanny problems. All I could tell him was a horrible word that people use against other people to make them feel bad. How can you really explain that and try to keep a kid's innocence?

@EllaDisenchanted Weird that the parents couldn’t handle it. Softies, eh?
@76starships Kinda. They mean well and put up firm boundaries but don't know how to fix a breech in a lot of cases.

@EllaDisenchanted So it seems. It’s kind of embarrassing and I can see why they’d balk at trying to explain it.
