I Have Epilepsy

So I have absence seizures..temporal lobe epilepsy...And I only recently read stories from others describing the aura (warning) before an absence. When they described it as, butterfly sensations, impending doom feeling, deja vu feeling, overwhelming anxious feeling etc.
I totally agree!, and as difficult as it was to explain to people. Then they would say "But there's nothing to worry about?".."Nothings going to happen!"...They don't realise that the feeling pre-absence is just triggered as part of epilepsy. Perhaps made worse by the thought you could potentially have a full seizure.
But I was trying something recently. If the build up is mixed feelings, and the overwhelming nerves intensifying until you zone out?. What if I try distracting myself not by just thinking about things (it never works, it can only intensifying a seizure)...but instead by creating a sharp feeling so my mind turns to the physical, its like it neglects everything else, the strange anxious feeling from the aura goes numb...my mind picking up me scratching the back of my hand or arm or pinching my skin.. I generally do this now whenever I feel the aura...That has worked for me since I tried it. I hope it continues.
My auras started as a metallic taste in my mouth and butterflies in my stomach. I no longer have that. The overwhelming anxious feeling is now very much the case for me.

Sometimes redirecting my attention helps, otherwise it can be easily to spiral into the triggers.

When my twin sons were in grade 5 they both had aura's of Deja Voux one of the twins would get migraine headaches while the other twin developed full blown Epilepsy with grand mal seizures! The one twin outgrew his illness, but the other twin still has grand mal seizures every 3 weeks to 3 months apart. He works with his dad in the construction buisness, and the other twin went on to work in the oil fields. If it wasn't for his dad, the other twin who still has epilepsy probably wouldn't be able to work in construction like he does...Sometimes his dad catches him just before he has a full blown seizure, and can hold his attention long enough for it to pass and he won't have a seizure! It's amazing, I never knew you could do that! My husband figured it out! But if he blacks out it's terrible and lasts about 2 minutes.
