Had an encounter with the police tonight

I went to an LGBTQ event in my town and tried really hard to make friends. But I couldn’t because I’m very quiet and even when I do talk nobody has any real interest in getting to know me.

So I left that place really depressed and called an UBER to pick me up. The UBER driver was pretty concerned about me. I must have been giving off sad vibes. Because he was really trying to cheer me up and told me that tomorrow is another day. All that stuff.

So I get dropped off at my house. Then because I’m still sad and have horrible insomnia. I decide to walk around the park by my house.

I walk around the park at night with my headphones in. After about 30 minutes a cop car pulls up and a police officer gets out of the car and starts questioning me.

He seemed confrontational at first but when he looked me in the eyes, he got really kind and compassionate. He said that the park is closed at sunset and he is concerned for my safety.

He also explained two years ago someone committed suicide at this park and that he wants to make sure I’m okay. I tell him I’m fine and that I was just having a bad night, so I came out to take a walk.

He told me that he hopes my night gets better and left.
I'm glad the cop didn't give you trouble.

I have also tried to go to lgbtq+ events, and am always aware of the ones that are happening in my area. I have gone tona total of 3 events in the past 4 or so years. Ended up going home because of a panic attack after the last two (there was a pride march and then a drag event after).
I hope it gets easier for both of us. It's really nice being able to connect with people who you share common ground with.

@AmbivalentFriability I used to get panic attacks from social events in my early 20’s. Nowadays I’m able to go out with people but I’m horrible at making social connections.
You need to be aware of your surroundings, especially alone at night. That's hard to do with headphones on :s

@SooperSarah I’ve walked around this park at night for the past 3 years. Never had a problem until tonight. Never ran into a cop before.

@QueenOfZaun I think you might have run into an angel in the most unlikely form!

If you were at that Sydney Mardi Gras event, I would imagine it would be overwhelming. I've always wanted to attend it but never had the guts or the company to do it.
That park is haunted.

@BohemianBoo I hope so
