What helps you with anxiety and depression?

Do you prefer medication or therapy? I was referred to somewhere last year but they got me on some medicine before therapy so I gave up. I wanted to talk to someone. Not take medicine.

Sometimes it is suggested to start the medication and help manage the symptoms and then that makes it easier to engage fully in the therapy

@Morrigan that makes no sense in my head. Lol how does it help with therapy?

@Kpopfan90 like i said for some people the symptoms of their depression will mean they will struggle to fully engage in a helpful way with therapy.

@Kpopfan90 they drug you like a lab rat and maybe after ten sessions they change it again

@Morrigan @Kpopfan90 when symptoms are severe it’s hard to even sort through what is what in your head, and the pain is all consuming

@WaryWitchWandering great explanation, that is exactly why meds can help, they kick start the process that talk therapy will maintain and meds for some people are not permanent just an aid

@Morrigan @WaryWitchWandering meds never helped. But I also didn’t stick with them for long. I hate swallowing pills
Morrigan · F
@Kpopfan90 depending what you are on, it can take up to 6 weeks to feel any difference and before that there are all the side effects to manage too.

@Morrigan and I absolutely HATE waiting that long for it to work
Morrigan · F
@Kpopfan90 yeah it is difficult, meds dont hold any easy answers nor does therapy

@Morrigan also, one med may work for me, but not you, or this person or that…

I had no luck with Celexa, but Lexapro was a huge help to me during really bad times

@WaryWitchWandering very true, i alwasy suggest if one med is not helpful too many side effects go back and ask for something else if you need to, there are many different types now.

@Morrigan I’m an impatient person and I hate when medicine takes so long to work and when it doesn’t work and I have to try something else, there goes another 6 weeks and I get frustrated

@Kpopfan90 it is incredibly frustrating, i have no doubts, and it can feel like no one is helping you particularly if you have been struggling for a while.
